With thanks to God

We give thanks to God for the life and faith of Heather Double, wife of Don, who, we have recently heard, died in March. On behalf of our church Richard has written sending love, sympathy and good wishes to Don. We are glad that Don is continuing in Christian ministry.

Happy Birthday

We send our love and good wishes to Audrey Whitmore on the celebration of her 90th birthday. Some of our church, who are members of the Girl Guiding Trefoil Guild, celebrated the occasion in our centre last week.

Audrey, a member of the Salvation Army who lives in Swanley, shared in our last autumn’s Alpha programme and was often a speaker for our church’s Sisterhood in the 1970’s, 1980’s and early 1990’s.

Our prayer topics for the summer term

Please be following through these prayer topics which are commended by our elders’ meeting for this summer term:

- in our church life: for young people.

- for our national life: that Christian influences be made more effective in every sphere..

- for international life: that there would be justice in Africa.

Bedding plants

The 4th Bromley Boys’ and 1st Hextable Girls’ Brigade Parents and Friends Association are selling bedding plants to help Boys’ and Girls’ Brigade activities. A number of young people in our church are members of these Brigades. Please consider supporting this plant sale.

Churches Together in Swanley & District

Party in the Park – run in conjunction with Swanley Town Council

Pentecost Sunday – 27 May.

‘Thank you’ to everyone of Christ Church who has offered help with this event. Around 70 people from our local churches have volunteered so far. More help is needed – especially for cake making.

Child protection forms are now available for all who have offered to help. Please would those of us who are helping receive papers from the unit by the pulpit. There are named copies for all who have volunteered. One copy is due for signing. Then please return signed copy to Margaret Voak – our church representative for Churches Together – and keep the other copy for bringing with you on the day.

In this week – may we have faith and hope with the visionary word of the Book of Revelation.

‘And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, "Now the dwelling of God is with men, and he will live with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away." ’           Revelation 21:3-4

Give thanks to the LORD, call on his name;

make known among the nations what he has done.

Sing to him, sing praise to him; tell of all his wonderful acts.

Glory in his holy name; let the hearts of those who seek the LORD rejoice.

Look to the LORD and his strength; seek his face always.

Annual Spring Clean

Our annual Spring Cleaning day will be held on Saturday 18th February (at the end of half term week) starting at 9am and ending about 1pm.
As in previous years we have a list of cleaning jobs covering both buildings from which to choose. Most take less than an hour to complete and every pair of hands really does make a difference. If you only have an hour to spare that's fine. There is something for everyone including the most important job of all - making the tea!
There are also some outside jobs which need attention in order to comply with fire regulations. Weather permitting we hope to paint lines in both car parking areas and also the edges to steps on the exit route along the Pine Close side of the Centre.
We need a good number of volunteers on the day so please put a note in your diary if you can help.
To sign up a list is on the table at the back of the church.............or else conscription may be enforced.
To misquote Lord Kitchener "Your Church needs you", so onward christian soldiers, roll up your sleeves and lets get cracking!
